Hi, I’m Sean Perrin. I am…
…the Host and Founder of Clarineat.com
“Clarineat” is a weekly podcast which is enjoyed in over 70 countries around the world. It was recently named one of the “Top 10 Classical Music Podcasts” by ArtaxMusic.com, and has been applauded by Dave Jackson’s “Podcast Rodeo” review show for having “nice audio” and “great content.”
The show is sponsored by one the world’s largest instrument accessory manufacturers, D’Addario Woodwinds, and has featured interviews with many of the most prominent clarinetists in the world including Martin Fröst, Harry Sparnaay, Evan Ziporyn, Lori Freedman, and Michael Lowenstern to name only a few.
…a Performing Artist
As a performer on both clarinet and percussion, I have played with numerous classical ensembles including the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, The Red Deer Symphony, and Bow Valley Chorus. I have also had the chance to appear on stage with pop acts including Keith Urban, Diana Krall, and Shania Twain.
…a Recording Artist
My playing can be heard on three commercially-available CDs with the University of Calgary Wind Ensemble, two as a substitute player for the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and I recently completed my first solo project called “Dreamsongs.” This project was made possible by a substantial grant from the Alberta Foundation of the Arts, a jazz improvisation scholarship from The Calgary Musicians’ Association and JazzYYC, and dozens of backers on Kickstarter.
Dreamsongs was produced by local jazz icon Tyler Horby, mixed and engineered by the award-winning Spencer Chenye (Joceyln Alice, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald), and was recorded at OCL Studios. The album reached number 5 on the iTunes Jazz charts on launch day, and has received radio play CJSW radio, and was featured on the “A Musical Life Podcast” with Hugh Sung.
…a Music Educator
Sean is also one of Calgary’s most in demand teachers and in addition to his private studio he teaches over 100 music workshops a year for organizations including Mount Royal Conservatory, The Banff Centre, Vic Lewis Music Festival, The University of Calgary, WestWinds, The Clinic Line, and the Department of National Defence.
